Cyclone Ampan could hit coastal districts of the country next Tuesday (May 19) night, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman.
The state minister said that according to the review of the Meteorological Department, if the cyclone Ampan does not change its speed and direction, it could hit the coastal districts of Bangladesh on the night of May 19.

The state minister made the remarks at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday (May 18) on the government's preparations for dealing with cyclone Ampan. At this time, the senior secretary of the ministry. Shah Kamal was present.

Enamur Rahman said the government is ready to deal with cyclone Ampan. Deputy commissioners have already been instructed to keep cyclone shelters ready in coastal districts.

Replying to a question, the state minister said the deputy commissioners of the coastal districts have been instructed to take necessary steps to increase the number of shelters so that people can be sheltered in the shelters while maintaining physical distance. During the stay at the shelter, necessary dry food and cow feed have been provided so that there is no shortage of food. Further allocation will be given as per the demand of the district administration. Instructions have also been given to make alternative arrangements if there is no power during the disaster.

Earlier, the state minister had an online meeting with the cabinet secretary, chief secretary to the prime minister, secretaries and senior secretaries of the concerned ministries and deputy commissioners of coastal districts on pre-preparedness and action to be taken in response to cyclone Ampan.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is 62 km per hour, which is increasing up to 6 km in the form of gusts or gusty winds. The sea near the center of the cyclone is very turbulent. Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 4.
