Mohammad Nasim's colorful political life


Former Health and Home Minister Mohammad Nasim had a colorful political life. He is a close associate of Bangabandhu, the son of Captain M Mansur Ali, one of the victims of the 75A jail massacre. Mansur Ali was the Finance Minister of the first government of Bangladesh formed during the War of Liberation and he was also the Prime Minister of Bangabandhu's government after independence.
As a child of a political family, Mohammad Nasim became involved in politics from his student days and till the last day of his life he was a member of the presidium of the Awami League, the country's traditional and oldest political party.

Mohammad Nasim was born on 2 April 1948 in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district. His father was martyred Captain M Mansur Ali and mother Amena Mansur. In education, Mohammad Nasim graduated from Jagannath College (now Jagannath University) with a degree in Political Science.

In his political life, Mohammad Nasim has suffered imprisonment, oppression and torture during different governments. He is the dictator of Pakistan. Rajpath has played an active and leading role in all military and anti-authoritarian movements in independent Bangladesh, including the movement against torture. He took part in the great war of liberation in 1971. He was a leading soldier in all non-communal and democratic movements of the country.

Mohammad Nasim was vocal against communalism and militancy and led the movement. He has been tortured by the police on the streets many times since 2001 during the anti-government movement of the BNP-Jamaat alliance.

Mohammad Nasim was involved in leftist student politics during his student life and was the leader of the traditional student organization Chhatra Union. He later became involved in Awami League politics. Mohammad Nasim played an important role in the anti-authoritarian movement in the 80s. At that time he was the organizing secretary of the Awami League.

Mohammad Nasim was elected the first Member of Parliament in 1986. After that Mohammad Nasim was also elected as a Member of Parliament in 1996 and 2001 elections. Later in the 2014 elections he was elected Member of Parliament from Sirajganj-1 constituency. He was also elected Member of Parliament from that seat in the 2016 elections. Along with Rajpath, he was also a loud voice in the National Assembly In 2012, he became a member of the presidium of the Awami League Council and held this position till his death.

After the formation of the Awami League government in 1996, Mohammad Nasim served as the caretaker Minister of Home, Housing and Public Works and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. He was then sworn in as a minister in the Awami League government formed on 12 January 2014 and served as health minister. Since then, he has been the spokesperson of 14 Awami League-led parties. He has a big role to play in keeping the 14 teams organized at present

He was involved in politics as well as various social welfare activities. He has set up several educational institutions in his area Sirajganj including Dhaka.

In his personal life, Mohammad Nasim is the father of three children. His wife's name is Laila Arjumand. Mohammad Nasim's son Tanvir Shakil Joy was elected Member of Parliament from Sirajganj-1 constituency in the 2008 elections.
