The BBC quoted local police chief Habibur Rahman Malekzad as saying that Taliban militants had come to the girl's house in groups to avenge the incident. But the villagers and the government militia could not withstand the counter-attack and fled.

After the incident, Kamar Gul and his younger brother were evacuated due to insecurity in the house, said Mohammad Aref Aber, spokesman for the provincial governor.
