Manu river project approved at ECNEC meeting


The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 projects worth Tk 9,480.9 crore, including projects to protect Sadar, Rajnagar and Kulaura upazilas of Moulvibazar district from erosion of the Manu river. These projects will be implemented in Corona with full government funding.

The approval was given at the 33rd ECNEC meeting of the present government on Sunday (June 21).
The ECNEC meeting was chaired by ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This meeting was held online.

Prime Minister and Planning Minister MA Mannan from Ganobhaban and concerned ministers and secretaries from NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar took part in the meeting.

After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said at noon, "We have made the ECNEC meeting virtual today." The Prime Minister and I were at Ganobhaban. There were concerned ministers and secretaries in our NEC building. We presented a total of 10 projects at the ECNEC meeting. All have passed. Today 9 thousand 480 crore 9 lakh rupees has been passed. It is a matter of joy for you and for us. The amount of our own money. No loans, no so-called assistance - these are nothing.

The projects approved at the ECNEC meeting are Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock's 'Increase Fisheries Production through Water Resources Reform (2nd Amendment)' project, Ministry of Water Resources's 'Protect Sadar, Rajnagar and Kulaura Upazilas of Moulvibazar District from Manu River Erosion', Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. The three projects of the Ministry are 'Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project-3 on priority basis', 'Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Greater Patuakhali District (Patuakhali and Barguna Districts) (2nd Amendment)' and 'Sustainable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene in Haor Region'. Development Project, Ministry of Home Affairs' Jamalpur District Jail Reconstruction 'Project, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges' 2 projects' Upgradation of Important Regional Highways to Appropriate Standards and Widths (Chittagong Zone) (1st Amendment)' Project and 'Tekerhat-Gopalganj (Haridaspur)' - respectively. Mollahat (Ghonapara) Regional Highway Upgradation to Proper Quality and Width 'Project, Ministry of Railways' 100 Meter Gauge Passenger Carriage of Bangladesh Railway The Narbasan (Phase II) project and the Ministry of Defense's BAFO Bangabandhu Complex Construction, Jessore (3rd Amendment) project have been approved for extension without cost increase.

The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Agriculture Minister. Abdur Razzak, Information Minister. Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Tajul Islam, Minister of Education. Dipu Moni, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister. Shahab Uddin, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Ministers and State Ministers of the concerned ministries participated in the meeting.
